Labs
The Department maintains two computer labs, each equipped with state-of-the-art workstations. Both labs are installed with all the software used in classroom instruction, both commercial and open-source packages, and are available to students until 11pm most evenings (see our schedule for more information). |
Riley Hall 201 is used primarily for CS16, CS17 and CS19 class instruction. This room is also used from time to time for special workshops and evening classes. |
| Riley Hall 203 is used primarily for programming language courses and upper-level courses within the Computer Science majors. Both labs, however, are installed with the same software, ensuring that students in any class may work in either lab. |
The machines in Riley Hall 201 and 203 are supplied by the university on a three-year rotation. The rotation schedules are staggered, ensuring that the students have access to the latest technology. |

Research Area and Lounge |
| In addition to its lab facilities, the Department also maintains a student lounge and research area. The student lounge features comfortable seating, a microwave and refrigerator for snacks, and a top-of-the-line gaming console, complete with internet account. The lounge is open to all CS majors and current CS students, and is open whenever the labs are open. |
The research area features dual-monitored, high-performance Dell workstations. These workstations are installed with the same software as the labs and may be configured as dual-boot Windows/Linux machines. Some research stations also have Sun UltraSparc machines. Research space is limited and is assigned each term by the Department Chair. |
Peripherals |
| The Department provides more than just high-end computing platforms. We also maintain a number of laser printers (both color and monochrome), digital cameras, slide and flatbed scanners and multimedia presentation capabilities. |

Servers
The Department also maintains a variety of servers. Student accounts and class folders are housed on the department's file servers. CS majors are provided space for personal websites on the department's web server. Lab printers are managed through the department's print servers. Login authentication is handled through the department's own domain controllers. The Department also maintains several database servers and a code versioning/repository servers, accounts for which are provided as needed. |
